Bennie Mae Johnson, 86, of Lake Charles passed away at 10:13 AM on Thursday, May 18, 2017 in her daughter’s residence.
Mrs. Johnson was born on April 8, 1931 in Natchitoches, LA where she graduated high school. She had lived in Lake Charles for the past 65 years. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker most of her adult life and a great cook, famous in our family for her “Memo cake.” She had a quick wit and usually left people smiling where ever she went. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed working in her yard, winning at scrabble and dominoes, but most of all she enjoyed time spent with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are three children, Jackie Lanier (Tony), Kathy Barker (Steven), and Don Johnson (Maria) all of Lake Charles; a sister, Bobbie Gray of Natchitoches; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Johnson; parents, Lenora and Bennie Garcia; and a sister Lenora Prothro.
A private graveside service will be held in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, donate3.cancer.org.
