Bernard Barclay "Doc" Laborde, 79, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Born in Marksville, Louisiana to Grace and Romaine Laborde, he is preceded in death by his wife of 49 year, Evelyn, his brother Theo, and sisters Martha and Emaline. Doc graduated from University of Louisiana at Lafayette with an accounting degree in 1957 and Loyola University in New Orleans with his MBA before serving in the U.S Air Force achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His 35 year career at Shell Oil Company ended in Houston where he retired. Those left to cherish his memory are his three children and their spouses, Bruce Wagner Laborde and wife, Rita, of Lake Charles, LA, Constance Grace Johnson and husband, Mark, of The Woodlands, TX, and Barclay Robert Laborde and wife, Jean, of Colleyville, TX. His eight grandchildren, Gregory Bernard Laborde, Patrick Karam Laborde, Tyce Alan Johnson, Eleanor Grace Johnson, Alana Morgan Johnson, Landon Mark Ludlow, Ryan Richard Ludlow, and Kathryn LaDelle Ludlow. As a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston, TX for over forty years, Doc belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Men's Club serving as their treasurer. He was an active tennis player and a golf enthusiast. Doc enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. But mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. The family would like to "thank the staff at The Guardian for taking such wonderful care of our dad." A gathering of friends will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, Monday February 24, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Scripture Service at 6:00 PM. A Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 25,2014 at 1:00 pm at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. While floral tributes are welcomed and appreciated, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to the Evelyn and Bernard Laborde Foundation in care of BBVA Compass Bank, 6800 Woodlands Parkway, The Woodlands, TX 77382.
