Bernard Morein

Bernard Morein, 79, of Lake Charles died on Tuesday, April 09, 2013 in a local care facility.


Mr. Morein was born on July 10, 1933 in Mamou where he was raised. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Morein was a graduate of McNeese State University with a degree in accounting. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a carrier after more than 30 years. Following retirement, he delivered products to beauty shops for Armstrong McCall.


He enjoyed Cajun music and dancing. He was a member of W.B. Williamson American Legion Post #1 where he held an officer position and was also a member of VFW Post 2130. Mr. Morein also belonged to and was an officer of the Single's Club where he loved to go dancing.


Those left to cherish his memory are a son, Odell Morein of Lake Charles; two daughters, Leila Nichols and husband Gene of Lake Charles, Susan Broussard and husband Robbie of Grand Lake; six step daughters, Ida Cotton of Lake Charles, Liz Breedlove and husband Jim of Round Rock, TX, Dee Verret of Round Rock, TX, Carol Nelson of Ponchatoula, LA, Darla Forbes and husband Baron of Sulphur, and Lonnie Perry of Dallas; a step son, Wayne Perry and wife Lupe' of Houston; a brother, Elvin Morein of Eunice; a sister, Gloria Bunn of Mount Airy, NC; and 19 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Katie Morein; a daughter, Sheila Morein; two brothers, Isom and Leonard Morein; a sister, Rose Saucier; and a step son, Rocky Perry.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 12, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Scott Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in McFatter Cemetery in Dequincy. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with an American Legion service being held at 5:30 PM and a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
