Bert John Wainwright

Bert John Wainwright, 67, of Lake Charles, LA died on Monday, August 9, 2010 in a Houston, TX hospital.

Mr. Wainwright was born June 18, 1943 in Port Arthur, TX and was raised in New Orleans. He was a 1965 graduate of East Jefferson High School and graduated from McNeese State University in 1976 with his Master's of Education. For almost thirty years, Mr. Wainwright taught early childhood education for the state of Louisiana, on both the private and public levels. He established and operated La'Telier Preschool and Kindergarten for almost twenty years, where he included children with special needs in his classes; all were welcome! He organized the CDA Program at McNeese, which prepared adults to work with young children and served on a federal review team for DANYA International. Mr. Wainwright was a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. During his free time, he enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator, spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and photography. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed dearly.

Mr. Wainwright is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Jenna Fontenot Wainwright, son, John Scott Wainwright of Lake Charles; daughters, Jessica Ann Chapman and husband Ben Chapman of Baton Rouge, Rebecca Bawcom and husband Dr. Brad Bawcom of San Antonio, and Jennifer Wainwright of Lake Charles; sister, Mary Katherine Wimmer and husband Malcolm of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Jack and Madeline Bawcom; and his cat, Annabell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Voight and Katherine Mary Wainwright.

His funeral service will be at 2:30 PM on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
