Bertha Digiglia Marcello

Bertha "Bert" DiGiglia Marcello, 91, of Lake Charles, LA died Saturday, January 10, 2015 in her residence. Bert was originally born in Lake Charles, LA on March 27, 1923. She married Dr. Luke Marcello in 1941 and moved to DeRidder. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother of five children. As a young bride during WWII, she chaperoned dances for the soldiers at the first USO in the country, and rolled bandages for the effort. She was a charter member of the DeRidder Thursday Study Club, past president of the Beauregard Medical Auxiliary, an active member of the DeRidder High Band Boosters for many years. She was known as a gracious hostess for many occasions, including bridge gatherings and social events. In 1983, she moved back to Lake Charles, LA where she was an active member at Our Lady of Good Counsel. She volunteered there, as well as participated in the Service Group and was a lay minister of Communion. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anthony "Bea" Fertitta, and Josie C. DiGiglia both of Lake Charles, LA; two daughters, Ann Governale and husband Gary of Laurinburg, NC and Mary Jane Doise and husband Dennis of Lafayette, LA; her two sons, Sam Marcello and wife Clara of Houston, TX, and Chris Marcello of Lake Charles ,LA; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousin, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Luke M. Marcello; her son, Dr. Leo Luke Marcello; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam and Mary DiGiglia. We would like to extend a special thanks to Christus Home and Hospice Care Team, especially Elinor and Dawn for their care a support. Services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM rosary and scripture service by Rev. Don Piraro Monday, January 12, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Beauregard Memorial Cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Celebrant Monsignor Sedita and Concelebrant Rev. Don Piraro will officiate services.
