Bertha Breaux Duhon, 97, of Sweetlake, LA, passed away at 4:04 PM on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in a local care facility.

Bertha Mae, as she was affectionately known, was born October 10, 1924 in Sweetlake, LA, to the late Dulva and Ement Gatte Breaux.  Bertha was one of six and was a natural caregiver from early on in life.  She was always willing to help family and friends.  She was a faithful servant of the lord and a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church Parish.  She worked as a cook in the cafeteria at Grand Lake School for many years, where she loved seeing and visiting with all of the students and making life-long friends with her fellow co-workers.  Following her retirement, she focused on her family and grandchildren.  She loved reading, sewing, flowers, puzzle books, coloring, praying and visiting with her family and friends.  She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and the lives she touched throughout the years.

Ms. Duhon is survived by her daughter, Jean Hebert Primeaux (Robert); grandchildren, Chad Primeaux (Renee’), Michelle Bellard (Brett), Phillip Primeaux (Amanda), Ben Duhon (Summer), and Matthew Duhon (Melissa); and great-grandchildren, Jordan Primeaux (Jenna), Colton Duplichan, Brenna Bellard, Samuel Bellard, Annevaeh Duhon, Mia Duhon, Sophia Duhon, Ivan Duhon and Ivy Duhon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry Breaux and Algie Breaux; two sisters, Carrie Breaux Deshotel and Lillian Breaux Manuel; an infant sibling; daughter of the heart, Priscilla Duhon; and great-grandson, Jonathan Gage Bellard.

Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home.  Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate.  A private burial will be in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service, with a rosary at 1:00 PM.

The family would like to give a special word of thanks to all of Bertha’s “Angels and Sweeties” at Resthaven Nursing Home.  She was truly blessed with so many workers that showed her compassion, love, and friendship over the past three years when she needed it the most.  Also, a special thanks to Amedisys hospice for their understanding and compassion.
