Bessie Louise Marks Woods

Bessie Louise Marks Woods, 85, of Lake Charles, LA died at 8:50 AM on Monday, June 18, 2012.

Mrs. Woods was born February 7, 1927 in Arnaudville, LA and was a graduate of Arnaudville High School and Cosmetology School in New Orleans. She also worked as a clerk at City Hall in Lafayette, LA. She has lived in Lake Charles for the past fifty-eight years and was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Mrs. Woods enjoyed cooking and sewing and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a kind and warm hearted woman who loved unconditionally.

Mrs. Woods is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Lloyd Woods; daughters, Lauren Chance and husband Jimmy and Melissa Belaire, all of Westlake; sons, Kenneth Woods of Lake Charles and Charles Woods and wife Barbara of Orlando, FL; sisters, Lucy Mason of Abbeville, LA and Laurence Gerhart of Lafayette, LA; brother, Louis Marks of Arnaudville, LA; grandchildren, Shannon Lavan, Glenn Chance, Megan Belaire, Nicholas Belaire, Austin Woods, Candace Devillier, Kim Soileau, Matthew Woods and Christopher Woods; and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kenneth E. Belaire; parents, Joseph and Berthilde Marks; and siblings, Samuel Marks, Agnes Stelly, John Marks, Rita Marks, and Paul Marks.

Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon George Carr will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
