Betty Jane Beard

Betty Jane Beard, 78, of Holmwood, died at 1:45 PM Monday, May 30, 2011 in a local care facility with her loving family at her side.

Mrs. Beard was born in Welsh, Louisiana to the parents of Eraste and Zelma Billedeaux. She has lived in the Holmwood area for the past 37 years. Mrs. Beard was a 1950 graduate of Marion High School. She worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board as a teacher's aide for 17 years. Mrs. Beard was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bell City. She loved sewing, gardening and was a Blue Bird leader for many years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years J.W. "Wilford" Beard of Holmwood, three daughters: Cindy Smith and husband Joel of Lake Charles, Joann Beard of DeRidder, LA and Tammy Beard and partner Marcie Miller of Hecker, LA, two sisters Alice Manuel of Moss Bluff, LA and Annie Sittig and husband Junior of Sulphur, LA, five grand children: David Williams and wife Amanda, Amanda Landreneau and husband Jason, Johnathon Guidry and wife Jessica, Janie Zaunbrecher and husband Conrad, Katie Guidry, five great grandchildren: Hailey and Brylee Williams, Hannah, Madison, and Presley Landreneau, and her loving and longtime faithful puppy "Tiny".

Mrs. Beard is preceded in death by her parents Eraste and Zelma Billedeaux, one sister Maffle Todd, one brother J.E. Billedeaux.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon George Carr will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service to be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at 8:00 AM until the time of services on Thursday.
