Betty Jane Newman

Betty Jane Newman, 74, of Lake Charles died at 10:45 PM on Monday, December 20, 2010 in a Lafayette hospital.

Mrs. Newman was born on July 18, 1936 in Gueydan, LA. She was a graduate of Sulphur High School. She became a nurse's assistant at Christus St. Patrick Hospital and retired after over 40 years of employment. Mrs. Newman attended Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and of the American Legion, 0208 John C. Bowden Post in Vinton, LA.

She enjoyed many things in life especially fishing, crocheting, and caring for her plants. Her greatest passion were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are a sister, Loretta Fontenot; a son-in-law, David Thibodeaux; three grandchildren, Craig, Curt, and Cody Thibodeaux; and three great grandchildren, Tucker, Bailey, and Haven Thibodeaux all of Lake Charles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernice and Lena Weekley; her husband, LeRoy Newman; and a daughter, Patty Thibodeaux.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon George Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of services.
