Betty June Brown Gentry, 88, of Lake Charles, LA, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in a local care facility.
Mrs. Gentry was born June 28, 1930 in Wynona, OK and was a 1947 graduate of Pawnee High School. She moved to Westlake, LA in 1953 and to Lake Charles in 1997. Mrs. Gentry was a past member of First Baptist Church of Westlake, where she was active with the WMU and was a member of Sale Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her family and friends and was a member of the Swinging Rebels Square Dancers. During her younger years, she also enjoyed sewing and made clothes for her family. She loved to collect and shop for Depression glass and china and collected bells. Mrs. Gentry was a loving Christian mother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; and she will always be remembered as a classy woman who kept an immaculate home.
Mrs. Gentry is survived by her daughter, Kay Gentry Ketchum of Lake Charles; sons, Dale Gentry and wife Mary Anne of Lake Charles, and Gary Gentry and wife Sarah of Hudson, IL; brother, Jimmie Brown and wife Sandra of Pawnee, OK; sister-in-law, Betty Griesel and husband Bobby of Pawnee, OK; grandchildren, Kristen Stanislaus (Brandon), Troy Ketchum (Kellye), Emily Spears, Kari Barras (Shamus), Jenny Soileau (David), Luke Gentry, and Madeline Gentry; and great-grandchildren, Drew, Kyle, Max, Everly, Kellen, Jack, Gray, Hank , Ruby, and Sara, and twin great-grandchildren on-the-way.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Amon Gentry; parents, Boyd and Thelma Brown; and sister, Louise Wilson and her husband Art.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Wayne McEntire will officiate. A gathering of family members and friends will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 11:30 AM to 1:15 PM.
