Betty Rose Long

September 11, 1927 — February 28, 2011

Betty Long, age 83, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011, at a local hospital.


Mrs. Long was born September 11, 1927, to David and Irma Olivier Miller in Lake Charles. She had a great love for the outdoors, having been avid bow hunter and fisherman. She always got her tom turkey and deer, having been assisted by her husband/guide. She was also was the first lady to be named Outstanding Angler in the Ladies' Division for SWLA Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. Along side with her husband, they owned and operated C.M. Long, Inc. Building Specialists for 61 years as well as attending St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. A graduate of LaGrange Senior High School, she was named the high school queen there. A loving, devoted, kind, and considerate woman to her husband, family, and friends, she will be greatly missed. Preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Richard Miller and a brother, David Miller.


Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Cedric "C.M." Long of Lake Charles; her six children, Marsha Miller of Lake Charles, June Baudoin of Lake Charles, Bill Long of Moss Bluff, Bruce Long and wife, Debbie of Lake Charles, Becky Woods and husband, Darrell of Moss Bluff, and Clark Long and wife, Stephanie of Lake Charles; her three sisters, Ollie Savant of Indian Village, Margaret Bruning of Texas, and Irma Jean Goodwin of Sulphur; one brother, Walter Miller of Texas; 11 grandchildren, Richard Miller, II, Michael Miller, Alisha Baudoin, Jackie Savoy, Zane Long, Scott Long, Madison Long, Brandy Woods, Kirsten Long, Cedric Long, and Lina Long; and 11 great-grandchildren.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning on Thursday, March 3, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Friday, March 4, from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A cursillo rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 6 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Long's grandsons.
