Betty Trahan

February 19, 1938 — October 14, 2024

Betty Louise Cooper Trahan died peacefully October 14 with her two daughters by her side after a long battle with dementia. She was born February 19, 1938 in Tullos LA to Walter and Myrtle Cooper. She grew up in Jennings and moved to Lake Charles as a young bride and raised her four children. She loved her children and successfully raised them, mostly as a single mom.

She was very proud of her nursing career, which started when her oldest child started school in 1961. She began her career as an aide and became an LPN in 1972. She achieved her lifelong dream of becoming an RN when she earned her bachelor's degree from McNeese in 1981. She loved being a nurse.

Betty was strong in her Catholic faith and served as a member of the choir at Our Lady of Good Counsel for many years. She loved spending time with her family, crocheting, reading, traveling with her friends, and her beloved dachshunds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Peggy LeJeune, her son-in-law Jim Stevens, her niece Melanie Bowles, and her great-granddaughter Mallory Stevens.

She is survived by her daughters Jackie Stevens and Sandra Shannon (Mike), her sons Mark( Nicki) and Tim( Celeste) Trahan; her grandchildren Julia Munn( Travis), Nick Trahan, and Amy Shannon; her step grandchildren Scott Stevens(Angie), Laurette Tupper(Mike), Charlotte Smith (Derek) , and Marilyn Sullins(Paul), 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, her sister Alice Gay Young (Pat) and by her dear friend and "adopted" daughter, Trisha Benoit.

The family would like to thank all of the many caregivers at Calcasieu Community Care Center, Heart of Hospice and The Verandah. Your loving care of our mother and of us was a true blessing.
