Mrs. Bettye Jeanne Dauser Whittington, 97, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away on October 30, 2024, peacefully in her sleep with her close friend by her side.
Bettye was blessed to spend the last two years of her life at Calcasieu Community Care Center in Lake Charles, LA, where she was cared for by great nurses, CNAs, and staff. They took excellent care of her and treated her with kindness, dignity, and respect. Along with Harbor Hospice, they helped make Bettye’s last days peaceful and comfortable.
Bettye was born February 13, 1927, in Tuscaloosa, AL, the daughter of Eugene and Lois Dauser.
Bettye grew up in Memphis, TN, where she had her first job selling popcorn at the movie theater. She met Abbott and Costello when they came to town.
Bettye married Curtis Whittington in 1950. Curtis Whittington was an English professor at McNeese State University. They had one daughter, Janet, and enjoyed a long, happy marriage. Bettye was a devoted wife and mother, and she was a wonderful homemaker.
Bettye was a talented gardener, an avid reader, and a devoted fan of British television. She and her husband raised champion poodles.
Bettye was a Christian with strong faith and extensive knowledge of the Bible. She studied it carefully and often.
Bettye was funny, independent, very intelligent, and kind. She had a sharp wit. She was loved very much and will be missed.
Remaining to cherish Bettye’s memory are her close friends Christopher and Dorothy Frusha, Ronnie Frusha, and the McIntosh Family.
Preceding Bettye in death are her husband, Curtis, and her daughter, Janet.
Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
