Bettye Young Brooks, 85, of Lake Charles, LA died on Thursday, November 20, 2013 in her residence surrounded by her loving family. Bettye was born September 21, 1928 in Elizabeth, LA to Theodore and Maye Young. She was a 1945 Elizabeth High School graduate. She moved to Lake Charles in 1953 and was a loved church member of St. Luke Simpson Methodist Church. Bettye retired as a secretary for the Iron Workers Local #678 after 32 Years. She was a member of the Lake Charles Duplicate Bridge Club where she attained the rank of Silver Life Master. She especially loved being around her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband, Wilburn "Bitter" Brooks; two sons, David Brooks of Houston,TX, and Scott and wife Melinda Brooks of Lafayette, LA; one daughter, Kim Myers and companion Rick Goad of Lake Charles; sisters Rebecca Windle of Kingwood, TX, Wanda Smith of Evans, GA, Jackie Ballard and husband Gerald of Oakdale, LA, Helen Derbonne of Lake Charles; and Sara Harrison of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren, Brandon Brooks of Austin, TX; Shawn Brooks of Houston, TX; Marcus Myers and wife Courtney of Lake Charles, LA, Zachary Brooks , Hunter Brooks and Sara Brooks of Lafayette, LA; one great grandchild, Jackson Myers of Lake Charles, LA. Bettye is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Juanita Wesley; three brothers, Winnard Young, Richard Young, and Theodore C. Young. A special thanks to Melinda Kellar and the staff of Brighton Bridge Hospice for their wonderful care of Bettye. Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, November 22, 2013 from 2:00PM until 8:00PM. Visitation will resume Saturday from 11:00AM until time of service. Burial will be at Prien Memorial Cemetery. Officiating services will be Dr. Henry Bowdon.
