While it is often used in times of mourning, the word beloved is insufficient to describe a woman the magnitude of Beverly Rasbeary—the epitome of grace, strength and generosity. A faithful servant of Christ, Beverly went home to the Lord on June 11, 2021.
In this life, we are often defined by our struggles. And while her struggles later in life were many, Beverly was so much more and will be remembered as the rock of her family. She was a nurturing sister and aunt, a fun-loving grandmother, a supportive mother and a devoted wife to Wesley, the love of her life, her husband of 57 years.
Beverly was born on November 18, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She grew up in Baytown, Texas where she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She attended Lee College for two years and graduated with a degree in biology from Lamar University in Beaumont. While in college, she worked at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
She married John Wesley (Wes) Rasbeary in 1964. After living in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Texas for Wes’ work, they made their home in Sulphur in 1973, where they would raise their beautiful family: sons Wade and Scott, and daughter Rebekah. Beverly briefly worked part-time for Dr. Roy Sasser as a medical technologist, but then focused her energy and heart on raising her children until they were all school-aged.
Beverly returned to her career as a medical technologist where her spunk and tenacity was recognized by her co-workers and the many students, she trained during her 23 years at Christus St. Patrick Hospital where she also served as the clinical instructor for the hospital. She retired with the respect and admiration of all who had the honor to work with and learn from her.
A devoted member of the episcopal church, Beverly was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Moss Bluff, and most recently, St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lake Charles. She was very passionate in her Christian service, giving her time to the Cursillo Group and Daughters of the King. She was also an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, First Families of Texas, the Mayflower Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Boys and Girls Village board of directors, and her Mardi Gras krewe, Krewe of Danseurs Fou.
When her children were young, she volunteered her time with the various activities and organizations that brought them joy. When she became a grandmother, she continued that tradition spending countless hours at baseball and basketball games, dance recitals, swim meets and more.
Beverly was preceded in death by her father, James William Boyd, and her mother Annie Myrle Bonner Boyd of Yoakum, Texas. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Wes, children Wade (Alicia) Rasbeary of Dallas, Texas; Scott (Cassondra) Rasbeary of Lake Charles; Rebekah (Jay) Winters of Sulphur; her brothers Bill Boyd and Dr. Joe Cortina of Dallas, Texas; and Bob (Connie) Boyd of Pueblo, Colorado; her grandchildren Clayton, Paige and Justin Rasbeary of Dallas; Tyler, Evan and Andrew Rasbeary of Lake Charles; Allie and Philip Winters of Sulphur; and her nieces and nephews.
Proverbs 31:28-29 tells us, “Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her: ‘Many women are capable, but you surpass them all!’”
Beverly leaves behind countless loved ones who are immeasurably changed simply by having been loved by her.
