Bevo Rome, Jr., 75, was called to his Heavenly home on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17, 2018, with his beloved family at his side.
Born in Many, Louisiana, to Irvin Edward Rome, Sr. and Helen Ann Stoma Rome, Bevo graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1960 and attended Louisiana State University, where he met his wife of 54 years, Marian Englade Rome. As newlyweds, they opened the first of several retail clothing stores, one of which was named “Bevo’s.” He was also a part of various other business interests.
Bevo was active in many sporting activities. He completed the Houston Marathon, and he enjoyed playing poker in his later years, making many friends that he adored, as well as staying in touch with his classmates of his LCHS Class of 1960. He enjoyed having coffee at the Pitt Grill, and more recently at KD’s Diner. Bevo was an avid LSU football fan. In the fall of 2017, Coach O himself called Bevo giving him well wishes. He was an active supporter of many local campaigns, as well as an original member of the Krewe de la Famille and Krewe of Barataria. Bevo was a member of the Lake Charles YMCA and an active member of the Lafayette Bassmasters Club. He attended Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church for many years, yet found great joy in his Men’s Bible Study classes and in worshipping at The Vinyard Fellowship. Bevo joyfully shared his testimony and his love for Jesus.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-four years, Marian Englade Rome; his children, Tracy Rome Cunningham and husband Dru, Todd Edward Rome and wife Marcie, all of Lake Charles, and Trisha Rome Daughtry and husband David of Sugarland, Texas; eight grandchildren, Camille, Will and Anna Grace Cunningham, Jansen, Briley, and Peyton Rome and family friend, Emily Garner, and Jack and Henry Daughtry; and one great grandchild, Heidi Feduccia. Bevo was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Kelly Vigo will officiate. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved husband and father to the many wonderful and faithful friends who have called, stopped by to visit, sent cards and food, or expressed their love and concern in so many wonderful and loving ways. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Mohammad Khan and staff, Dr. James Maze and staff, Dr. Bryan Barootes, M. D. Anderson Hospital, and St. Patrick Home Healthcare nurses and staff.
