Billie Faye Spencer

March 29, 1927 — June 26, 2013

Billie Faye Spencer, went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2013 after a short hospital stay in Houston. Her 86 wonderful years were centered around her faith, family, and friends.


Billie Faye was born March 29, 1927 in Norphlet, AR and reared in Shreveport, LA. Graduating from Northwestern State University with a degree in Physical Education, she started teaching in the high schools of DeRidder and Shreveport moving on to teach at Louisiana College, where she met her husband of forty-three years, Steve Spencer. They relocated to Lake Charles when Steve accepted a position at McNeese State University. Throughout her fifty-five years in Lake Charles, Billie Faye was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she taught preschool in the nursery and was an active member of her Sunday School Class. She was also involved in McNeese Faculty Wives, Camp Fire Girls, S.L.C. Little League, McNeese Book Store, Ladies Investment Club, as well as other organizations. As a member of the Gulf Coast Bird Club, her passion for birding took her on many travels throughout the U.S. and South America.


Mrs. Spencer will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a faithful friend to all. She is survived by her children and their families, Donna Spencer, Warren Spencer and wife Laurie, and Sharon Spencer Cummings and husband Robert; grandchildren, Michelle Cummings Schroeder and husband Justin, Scott Cummings, Erin Spencer, and Alaina Spencer; great-grandchild, Piper Lily Schroeder; and many loving nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Stephen M. Spencer, Jr.; parents, Bill and Ollie Adams; and brother, Kingston Adams.


Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Home. Dr. John White will officiate. A gathering of friends will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Lake Charles, Dry Creek Baptist Encampment, the American Cancer Society, Gulf Coast Bird Club Lake Charles, or the charity of your choice.
