Billie Jean Jarrell Chelette

November 26, 1942 — September 4, 2022

Billie Jean Chelette, 79, daughter of Ben and Bertie Mae Jarrell of Merryville, Louisiana, was ushered into the arms of her heavenly father early morning, Sunday, September 4th, 2022. She was surrounded by family and close friends that loved and adored her as she peacefully departed the earthly plane and began her ascent into Heaven.

Billie is survived by her caring husband, Larry Niel Chelette, and five beautiful children, Esther, Beverly, Rebecca, Robert and Tiffany. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family members that will undoubtedly continue to cherish her loving memory for the rest of their lives.

A medical transcriptionist by trade, Billie devoted over 40 years of her life dictating the speech of medical doctors from all over the greater Lake Charles area at both Christus St. Pat’s and Memorial, where she spent the majority of her career, nearly 30 years, combined. After her retirement, she lovingly worked with CARC and several similar organizations serving locals with disabilities where she proudly shared and taught her love of music and the piano. A natural born floriculturist, Billie’s “golden” thumb enabled her to cultivate and grow the most exquisite rose and flower gardens with ease. She took immense pride in tending to her gardens, and lovingly admired each evolution from season to season.

Born with the voice of an angel, Billie was a keen lover of music and the piano from a very early age. Self taught by ear, she eagerly began singing and playing the piano in church, where she would then go on to become the church pianist at Westlake Church of God for nearly 33 years. In addition to the vital musical role she held  in her church home, she was also a member of the Lake Charles Messiah Chorus, and eagerly anticipated singing in their Christmas cantata, “Handel’s Messiah“ directed by Dr. Francis G. Bulber.

Anyone that had the pleasure of meeting her always commented on her beautiful, beaming smile and will attest to having witnessed firsthand the transformation her infectious laughter and joyous spirit had upon everyone fortunate enough to be in her presence. Never one to complain, instead, she always chose to lift others up with her kind, encouraging words and similar life experiences.

Throughout the trials and tribulations of her earthly life, in which there were many; she made the absolute best of every circumstance she encountered, tirelessly helping those of need in whatever capacity she was available, and ultimately creating a life she loved dearly.

Billie’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 24th 2022 at Westlake Church of God.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM and conclude at 12:30 PM, with her Celebration of Life service starting promptly at 12:30.
