Bobbi (McHan) Hopkins, 78, of Lake Charles passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013 in a local care center after a long illness. Mrs. Hopkins was born on August 27, 1935 in Marshall, TX and moved to Lake Charles in 1953. She was a 1955 graduate of LaGrange High School and received a degree in education from McNeese State University. Mrs. Hopkins taught elementary school for 26 years in Calcasieu Parish, primarily the third grade. She was an exceptional teacher in and out of the classroom and continued to be a teacher to all of us who loved her dearly. Mrs. Hopkins had a passion for reading books, teaching and education, football, politics, mountains, gardening and the beach. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 30 years, Dud Hopkins; her sister, Pat Perron; a brother, William "Bill" McHan, Jr.; three nieces and a nephew, Cindy Williams, Shari Nutter, Patricia Conners, and Robert McHan; and many other extended family and friends that will miss her much until we meet again. She was preceded in death by her parents, William, Sr. and Verona (Carlin) McHan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jack Clift will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
