Bobbie Jean Moon

July 18, 1937 — June 29, 2015

Bobbie Jean Goodson Moon, loving mother, wife and friend to many passed away on June 29, 2015 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was 77. Bobbie was a native of Oakdale, LA and a graduated of Oakdale High School, class of 1955. Bobbie was born July 18, 1937 in Oakdale to Harold Goodson and Noby Tracy Goodson. Upon graduation from Oakdale High School, she entered Louisiana State University. Bobbie was married to Cornie Moon, her high school sweetheart, on June 1, 1957 by Dr. H. T. Sullivan in the First Baptist Church. They returned to Baton Rouge where Bobbie worked for the LSU Dean of Student Affairs while Cornie attended LSU. In 1958, they moved to Lake Charles. While Cornie worked on the new Interstate highway Bobbie worked at Firestone as secretary to Paul Boley, Plant Manager. In 1969 they moved to DeQuincy. While Cornie served as high school principal, Bobbie became very active in local and national women's organizations. She loved camping and spent many wonderful times with friends and family on Ouiska Chitto Creek while the children were growing up. In 1975, the Moon family moved back to Lake Charles. Bobbie tended to her family and her children's education. After her children graduated, she returned to McNeese to finish her degree in education. She then taught school at Henry Heights Elementary. Among her achievements was the Electronic Learning Educator of the Year Award for Distiguished Achievement and the Computer Learning Foundation award for the Best Computer Learning Month Event. She loved her students and teaching. Bobbie loved art and music. Her water color pictures adorn the walls of her home and her hand painted greeting cards are well known and cherished by many of her friends. She loved Sue's art class, reading, cooking, gardening, decorating, St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, and the special meetings with her laughing and joking group of ladies from church. She was a wonderful, caring, and gracious friend to all who knew her. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Cornelius Moon; daughter, Anna Moon Naquin (Harold) of Lake Charles; son, Matthew Lee Moon (Mary Katherine) of Granger, Indiana; and their children, Edie, Abigail, Emma Elizabeth, and Joseph Patrick. Her memorial service will be at 2:30 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 123 West Sale Road, Lake Charles, LA, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Reverend Deborah Heathcock will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 PM until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of the following: St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church; Calcasieu-Cameron Retired Teacher's Association; St. Jude's Children's Hospital; or to a charity of one's choice.
