Bobbie L. Cart

The world as we know it, will never be the same. Our matriarch, our guiding light, our mother has left this earthly place and gone on before us. We’ll get past this loss, and we will live our best lives, because that’s what she taught us to do.

 Bobbie Ann Latiolais Cart, at age 85, passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, in the comfort of her home with her family at her bedside.

 She was born on June 18, 1937 to Curley and Ruby (Daigle) Latiolais in Church Point, Louisiana. Bobbie was a 1955 graduate of Crowley High School, where she was a marching majorette. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, James Russell Cart, August 18, 1956.

 After marrying, the couple moved to Baton Rouge and added 5 children to the family. In 1970, the Carts moved to Lake Charles. Bobbie’s home ran like a “tight ship”. Everyone had their household chores and responsibilities. The children were always taught the importance of hard work, honesty, and good character. As the children grew, she worked part-time clerical jobs. She found her perfect fit when she became the Athletic Secretary at Barbe High School. She treated all the coaches and players as family and was always there to support the Barbe Buccaneers. Her spirit was infectious and her voice could always be heard above the crowd. After her children and grandchildren graduated high school, she moved on to serve her church. She worked as the Volunteer Coordinator at OLQH Catholic Church for many years. She served with the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. Bobbie enjoyed traveling and made several trips abroad and across the states. She and Russell enjoyed following McNeese football and they took many motorhome adventures.

 She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years and held multiple leadership positions. She and Russell were charter members of the Cajun French Music Association and always enjoyed Cajun dancing. When they took the floor, everyone would stop and watch them gracefully move across the dance floor. In her 60’s, she enjoyed running competitive races with the Lake Area Runners. She was so proud to show off her many ribbons and trophies, because there were not a lot of competitors in her age group. She loved socializing with her friends in her Pokeno group and decorating her kitchen when she hosted them. Membership in the Krewe de Feteurs was also a source of excitement for Bobbie and a good reason to find a new ball gown or design a costume. Dancing and socializing with friends and family was always something she looked forward to.

 Those left to cherish her memory are, her husband of 66 years, Russell Cart; her three daughters, Kim Ardoin (C.J.) of Sulphur, Sherry Lyons (Steve) of Lake Charles, Kristi Fontenot (Matt) of Moss Bluff; her two sons, Rusty Cart (Susan), and Kevin Cart (Michele) both of Lake Charles. She is also survived by her sister, Cathy Habetz (Mike) of Iota, La; her two brothers, Elvis Latiolais of Cary, NC, and Dickie Latiolais of Crowley, La. She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her parents and a baby brother, Curley P. Latiolais, Jr.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Msgr. Daniel Torres will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4:00-8:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the family leaves in procession to the church.

 Her 3 granddaughters will share words and scripture readings at the services, her 10 grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

 The family would like to give special thanks to the private caretakers, the compassionate team of Heart of Hospice, and Home Instead. We would also like to thank the many friends and family for all their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
