Bonnie Jean Granger

December 22, 1952 — February 11, 2021

Bonnie Jean Granger, 68, of Bell City passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 in a local hospital.

Ms. Granger was born in Lake Charles and proudly lived all her life on family land in Grangerville of Lake Charles.  She was a 1970 graduate of Grand Lake High School and furthered her education to attain a Bachelor of Science and master’s degree in education.  She returned to Grand Lake High School where she made a difference in the lives and futures of many young people, as well as, having formed many lasting relationships with her students and their families throughout her twenty-eight-year tenure.  Ms. Granger was also devoted to her faith in God and the power of prayer.  She was an active member of St. Mary of the Lake in Big Lake where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and lector and the Chapel of St. Patrick in Sweetlake where she served the Catholic Daughters, Ladies Altar Society and Faith Renewal retreats and St. Vincent de Paul Society.  She also greatly enjoyed traveling, particularly with Father May, for many Pilgrimages within the states and internationally.  Her greatest times were often those surrounded by family as her home was the “welcoming mat”, the gathering place for Sunday family rosary prayer, monthly Sunday dinners, events and holidays.  During her downtime, Ms. Granger, a beautiful seamstress, enjoyed sewing for family and friends, from alterations to special events.  She also spent time working in her flower and vegetable gardens and pampering her fur babies.  She will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Jeffry Wayne Drounette (Jamie) of Sweetlake, John Rendy Drounette (Lori) of Lubbock, TX and James Curtis Drounette (Angie) of Hayes; four grandchildren, Evan Drounette of Sweetlake, Michael Drounette of Pampa, TX, J.C. Drounette of Lake Charles and Kye James Hoffpauir of Ragley; five siblings, Thomas Lynn Granger (Linda), John Lee Granger (Susan), Debra Granger Ogea (John), Dolores Aguillard (Kevin) and Bryan Anthony Granger (Janet) all of Sweetlake; sister-in-law, Vickie Hebert (Terry) of Lake Charles; numerous nieces and nephews and fur baby dog, Angel.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roland Isaac Lonthier, Michael Rendy Drounette and Timothy Wayne Chiasson; her parents, John C. and Enola Romero Granger; brother, Robert Wayne Granger and sister-in-law, Diane Granger.

Due to inclement weather a Mass of Christian Burial is rescheduled for 1 PM Friday, February 19, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bell City. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Visitation Friday will be from 10 AM until the time of service in the church. A Rosary will be recited at 11 AM.

Memorial donations may be made to the Chapel of St. Patrick, 469 Highway 27, Sweetlake, LA 70607.
