Bonnie Sue Harris Cocchiara

January 27, 1941 — September 3, 2015

Bonnie Sue Harris Cocchiara received God's tender mercy and peace on September 3, 2015. Bonnie was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She and her loving husband, John Lucas Cocchiara, moved to Lake Charles in 1971 with their three daughters. Shortly after moving to Lake Charles, Bonnie completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from McNeese State University. She will be remembered as an avid animal lover and enthusiastic wildlife photographer, and an accomplished pianist, floral designer, and writer. Bonnie Sue joins her adoring parents Jules E. and Elma D. Harris, her brother Jules "Jay" E. Harris II, her Aunt Lelia Harris diBenedetto, and many other relatives and friends in eternal rest. She now holds in her arms great-grandson Jude Lee. Bonnie will be missed by her husband, John: and her daughters and their husbands: Wendy and Randy Tannehill; Betsy and Mark Snow; and Julie and Marty DeRouen. "Bootsie" is cherished by her grandchildren: Dr. Katye Gayle (and husband Christopher Eldredge), Jeffrey "Taylor" Lee (and wife Heather), Andrew DeRouen, Quincy Gayle, Ellen Grimshaw, Emily DeRouen, and Avery Grimshaw. John and daughters sincerely thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Patrick's Hospital, especially Dr. Ron Kober, and all of Bonnie's caregivers, especially Sammie Hugonin, for their extraordinary care and patience. Friends and family will gather at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, on Sunday, September 6th from 1 - 3 PM. A funeral liturgy will be held at 3 PM with Reverend Brian King officiating. At Bonnie's request, burial will be in New Orleans at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Patrick's Hospital Pastoral Care.
