Bradley Avant Conner, 77, of Lake Charles died at 2:40 PM on Thursday, February 13, 2014 in a local hospital. Mrs. Conner was born on November 3, 1936 in Duson, LA to Clotilde and Grady Avant. She was raised in Rayne where she was a graduate of Rayne High School. Mrs. Conner moved to Lake Charles in 1955 and became a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. After raising her children, she became a special education school bus driver. She was a special lady that put her family first and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Mrs. Conner loved sewing and was a remarkable cook. She and her husband spent time together camping and dancing. One of their favorite past times was the weekly family lunches and visits. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 59 years, Herbert Hewitt Conner; four sons and their spouses, Grady Conner and Kathy of Lake Charles, David Conner and Mary Beth of Lake Charles, Troy Conner and Sheila of Sulphur, and Derek Conner and Kim of Lake Charles; a sister, Clara Cormier of Carencro, LA; eight grandchildren, Lauren Ellis and husband Ashton of Claremont, CA, Michael Conner of Dallas, TX, Mariet Bernard and husband Ross of Lafayette, Clint Conner of Lake Charles, Cory Conner of Sulphur, and Whitney, Owen, and Philip Conner all of Lake Charles; four great grandchildren, Charles, Teresa, James, and John Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bertha Abshire and Maude Duhon; and a brother, Grady Avant, Jr. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Monsignor Danny Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue in the funeral home on Saturday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church for services.
