Brenda Hanchey Sims

Brenda Hanchey Sims, 71, passed away in the comfort of her home on July 8, 2017.

Mrs. Sims was from a family of educators; she was born to be a teacher. She spent the majority of her years as a teacher at S.J. Welsh. Mrs. Sims achieved a Masters+30 from McNeese State University. She was an active member for 41 years at Trinity Baptist Church. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing with her family at Little Chenier and Toledo Bend.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, David Sims; children, Rick Sims (Kaysha), Elese Sims, Cory Sims, Austin Sims, and Abby Sims; grandchildren, Savannah Sims, Evan Sims, Hanna Sims, Conner Miller, and David Benoit.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Nona Hanchey; and brother, Edwin Hanchey.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church at 11AM on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Rev. Steve James will officiate. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home 5PM-8PM on Wednesday, July 12.
