Brett William Teeter

November 21, 1982 — June 22, 2021

Brett William Teeter received his angel wings on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, surrounded by his loving family and a few of his close friends.  For several years he battled life’s challenges with courage and quiet dignity.

Brett was a loving and loyal son to his mother, GiGi Kuehn Teeter, and father, Tim Teeter.  He was so proud of and dearly loved his little brother, Blaine.

Brett is survived by his parents and by his maternal grandmother, Billie Kuehn; his brother, Blaine Teeter and wife Lauren Sutton Teeter, and many aunts, uncles and friends.  Brett was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Kuehn, and his paternal grandparents, Bill and Betty Teeter of Kansas.

Brett lived in Lake Charles his entire life. He attended A. M. Barbe High School where he was a successful basketball player for 4 years.  His Junior and Senior years of playing he was named 1st Team All District in basketball. During his Senior year he was named All Southwest Louisiana in basketball.

After graduating, Brett attended McNeese State University, where he was a member of the basketball team.  In 2002 his basketball team had the honor of acquiring a bid to the NCAA tournament in Dallas, Texas.  While playing for McNeese, his teammates gave him the nickname “Blue Collar Worker” because of his practice and game ethics, always giving over 100% in all he did.

Brett enjoyed all sporting events, indoor and out, running, traveling and reading.  He loved his dogs and they loved him!  His favorite times and best days were spent with his family and friends, enjoying the laughter and love of one another.

Brett was also very close to our Lord and an ACTS Member with St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.  His love and the relationship he had with God was personal and powerful, which Brett openly professed in his many journal writings.  His true desire in life was to be a good servant, helping others who may be suffering (silently or otherwise).   He fulfilled his final wishes of helping others by donating his organs to save lives.

Brett’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and caretakers at St. Patrick Hospital and to his dear friend, Nikki Bailey.  Also thank you to everyone in the community and friends near and afar who have reached out and have shared so many beautiful memories of Brett during this difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Msgr. Jace Eskind will officiate, with Father Whitney Miller to concelebrate.  Interment will be at Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Thursday, June 24 from 4 until 8 p.m. at University Baptist Church and will resume on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.

Memorial donations may be made to the Brett Teeter Scholarship Fund at Jeff Davis Bank, a scholarship fund created to help those struggling with addictions.
