Brian Stanley Michael Ezell of Lake Charles passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 5, 2019.
Mr. Ezell was born to Frank and Florence Ezell on March 12, 1948 at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles.
He graduated in 1966 from Marion High School, where he met the love of his life, Sharon Cook, and they married in October 1968. He attended McNeese State University until December 1968, joined the United States Air Force in communication and navigation, received an honorable discharge in 1972 and returned to Lake Charles. Mr. Ezell worked at Western Electric which lead to Bell South and later AT&T. In 1983 he went to work for McNeese State University as PBX Telephone System Upkeep and Repair.
He took great pleasure in preparing the press box and stadium for his beloved McNeese Cowboys. He retired in 2010 as Director of Physical Plant and was very well respected.
His accomplishments included his masonic work, serving as Past Worshipable Master of Rudolph Krause Lodge #433, Past Potentate (2013) of Habibi Shriners, Past Director of the Order of Royal Jesters, served as Habibi Legend of Honor Guard, and a member of Cabiri. He felt it was truly an honor to be alongside so many great men (brothers) who do so much for this great fraternity and philanthropy, which provides encouragement and inspiration to others.
He was a member of Moss Bluff’s Krewe du Grande Bois for several years and built the decorations for their ball. He was 1996 King for the Krewe. He loved the Louisiana culture, Cajun music and dancing. His hobbies included drumming in several bands and building many houses.
Most of all his family was very important to him and he was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, always setting a good example. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-one years, Sharon Ezell, daughter, Anissa Ezell Theriot and son, Brian Donivan Ezell (Farrah), all of Lake Charles.
He also leaves grandchildren, Tyler Theriot (Leslie McDonald fiancé), Alexis Theriot (Gabe Young, fiancé), Allyson Theriot, Carson Ezell and Nicholas Ezell and great-grandson, William Michael Theriot, all of Lake Charles; brothers, Russell (Debbie) Ezell, Glen (Anna) Ezell of Lake Charles and Dana (Nila) Ezell of Grand Lake; sister-in-law, Peggy (Richard) Waring of Euless, Texas, brother-in-law, Tracy Dale Cook of Hatfield, Pennsylvania and dear friends, Harry Fontenot and R.B. Smith.
He is preceded in death by parents, Frank Robert Ezell and Florence Deriso Ezell; sister, Kathleen Frankie Bradberry and sisters-in-law, Linda (Bill) Brandy, and niece, Angela Marie Ezell Hunter.
The family would like to express their gratitude to VA Hospital, staff and nurses and Amedisys Hospice.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, May 10, 2019 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic funeral services will conclude the service. Reverend Katie Black will officiate. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation Thursday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
Pallbearers for the service will be Harry Fontenot, Bo House, Greg Tete, John Derby, Larry McCallister, Harry Northrop and Judge Robert Wyatt.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Habibi Legion of Honor.
