Bryant Reed Ackley, 65, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 11:55 AM on Sunday, November 30, 2014, in a Houston, TX, hospital. Mr. Ackley was born September 25, 1949, and lived most of his life in Lake Charles, LA. He was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School and attended McNeese State University. Mr. Ackley worked for the Lake Charles Fire Department for thirty-one years, retiring in 2001. He worked his way up to the rank of District Chief. After his retirement, he worked in St. Croix as a consultant in the fire industry. Mr. Ackley attended Trinity Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed working at Graywood as a marshal on the golf course. He also visited a number of schools and assisted in the organization of their golfing programs. Mr. Ackley was also an active member of the McNeese Cowboy Club, enjoyed fishing, and loved the New Orleans Saints. He was a kind, generous, and charismatic man who will be missed dearly. Mr. Ackley is survived by his daughter, Lauren Ackley Turner and husband Darrel of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Grey and Grifin Turner; sister, Tura Norton and husband Howard of Pasadena, TX; brothers, Deryl Ackley and wife Norma Faye of New Orleans, LA; and nephews, Stuart Norton of The Woodlands, Lanier Norton of Cincinnati, OH, and Dane Ackley of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Deryl and Simmie Ackley; and nephew, Myron Norton. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at 2:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
