Burdell Marie Arceneaux, 77, of Sulphur, died Friday May 6, 2016, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her beloved family.
Burdell born in Crowley to Joseph Nathan and Thelma Eleanor Miers Laurents and a graduate of St. Michael’s High School where she lettered in Basketball. She was a longtime resident of Sulphur, where she and her husband settled down and raised their family. Burdell loved to bake and cook and be around and to help others. She was a dedicated member of the catholic faith, and currently a member of St. Martin De Pores Catholic Church. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Sulphur.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Giles Arceneaux; infant daughter, Patricia; and granddaughter, Christina Burgin. She leaves to honor and cherish her memories, five children, Cheryl Tompkins (Dale), Port Barre; Anna Burgin (Charles), Lake Charles; Donna Patterson (Michael), Baton Rouge; John Arceneaux (Eileen), Southaven, MS; and Renee Arceneaux (Tara), Sulphur; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Joann LeBlanc, Crowley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday May 8, 2016 with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue Monday May 9, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be observed at 11:00 AM Monday May 9, 2016 at St. Martin De Pores Catholic Church with Monsignor Jace Eskind serving at the celebrant. Burial, alongside her beloved Giles, will be at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery.

The family wished to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Brian Clements, Dr. Michael Broussard, Dr. James Maze, the nurses and staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Oncology Department, and Heart of Hospice for the compassionate and loving care shown not only to our mother, but us during her final days; also to Kim, Donna, Bud, Susie and Becky for being there for her through the many years.
