C. A. Allen Verret

October 16, 1927 — January 9, 2011

C.A. "Allen" Verret, age 83, passed away January 9, 2011, at a Lafayette hospital.


He was born October 16, 1927, in Lockport, to Numa and Rena Verret. Mr. Verret worked for over 42 years for Southern Pacific Railroad and was on the board of directors of SPELC Federal Credit Union for over 30 years. An avid antique car collector, he along with his wife belonged to the Contraband Chapter Antique Car Club as well and the Amicus Club. C.A. never met a stranger, and loved time with his family. He was known for never missing a birthday. A long time member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Preceding him in death was his wife, Rose Annette Guintard Verret, one son, Grady Richard; two brothers, LeRoy Verret and James Carroll Verret; two sisters, Rose Fontenot and Geneva Jennings.


Survivors include his six children, Deborah Falcon and husband, C.A. of Lake Charles, Donna Johnson of Bridge City, TX, Kenneth Allen Verret of Westlake, Mandi Phipps and husband, James of Lake Charles, Jack Richard and wife, Vickie of Lake Charles, and Laura Melancon and husband, Paul of Lake Charles; a daughter-in-law, Millie Richard of Lake Charles; one brother, Larry Verret and wife, Jean of Lake Charles; three sisters, Mildred DeBarge and Shirley Burwell and husband Dempsey both of Lake Charles, and Mary Toler of Denham Springs; nineteen grandchildren, Steven Falcon, Heidi Richard Morgan, Michael Falcon, Marcus Johnson, Kaela Falcon Jessen, Melanie Melancon Hudson, Matthew Johnson, Stephanie Verret, Nicholas Melancon, Brandon Richard, Heather Bryant, Dustin Richard, Jeremy Richard, Thomas Johnson, Kendall Johnson, Hannah Verret, Amanda Richard, Addie Rose Phipps, and Logan James Phipps; and 23 great-grandchildren.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Emmanuel Tanu will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning on Monday, January 10, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday, from January 11, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. A rosary will be prayed Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.
