Calvin David Spell died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 81, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Mr. Spell was a native of Sulphur, Louisiana and resided in Nederland, Texas for over 50 years. He returned to Sulphur last year and resided at Stonebridge Assisted Living Center. Mr. Spell was a veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, serving in the post World War II era. He worked as a pipefitter at UnoCal refinery in Nederland, Texas for over 35 years. He was a member of the Nederland Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post in Nederland. Mr. Spell was preceded in death by his wife Johnnie Oschner Barber Spell, and his parents, Joseph David Spell and Matilda Hoffpauir Spell of Sulphur, Louisiana. Survivors include stepson Jack Daniel Barber of Groves, Texas; his sisters, Evelyn Charlene Flowers, Olive Campbell, Helen Moss and husband Walter O. Moss, Jr. all of Sulphur, and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Friday, August 13, 2010 from 3pm " 6pm in Robison Funeral Home Chapel in Sulphur. Visitation in Nederland, Texas will be from 10am " until time of service at 2pm in Heritage Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by Rev. Peggy Foreman of Wesley Methodist Church in Sulphur. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Stonebridge for their loving care and attention during Mr. Spells residency there.
