Calvin Jackson Sandefer

June 23, 1934 — August 5, 2020

Calvin Jackson Sandefer, 86, of Lake Charles, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at his residence with his family by his side.

He was born June 23, 1934 in Sugartown, LA to Bolan and Katie Eubanks Sandefer. Calvin worked for Dimmick’s Supply from when he was nineteen years old until he retired in 2008. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He could remember wittisms, adages, and sayings which he could pull out at the most opportune times. His children called them “Calvinisms.” They never knew which ones he had made up off the top of his head, or if he was just repeating  what he had heard.

He loved old clocks, and for years would faithfully go through the house winding those that needed winding so that they would chime and strike as they should. His outlook on life was positive and he always tried to find the good in everyone. Calvin had a quiet, but deep faith. When he could not work anymore because of his eyesight he would listen to preaching on TV or to his audio Bible. He would share what he got out of sermons and what part of the Bible he had listened to recently. Because of Calvin’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the family knows that when he took his last breath on earth, the next one was in Heaven.

Those left to cherish her memory are, his beloved wife of 66 years, Jena Fay Reed Sandefer; his two daughters, Diane Sandefer Manuel (John), Linda Sandefer Cardella (Buddy); sister Nell Sandefer; five grandchildren, Russell Wayne Meaux (Brandi), Blake Bourque (Harlie), Megan Manuel McCann (Joe), Grace Bourque Morris (Randall), Maggie Kate Manuel (Cory Beaugh); three great grandchildren, Barron Bourque, Iris Bourque, and Westin McCann.

He was preceded in death by his parents his son Tim Sandefer and grandson Tyler Manuel.

A private family graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, August 6, 2020 in Blue Branch Cemetery in Pitkin, LA under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Dr. Michael Shamblin will officiate.
