Calvin "Lenard" Cooley

June 5, 1924 — July 1, 2015

Calvin Lenard Cooley, 91, of Lake Charles, LA, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in a local care facility. Lenard was born June 5, 1924 in Chilton, TX. He was a graduate of the University of Texas and also received some of his professional engineering training from the Texas A&M University. Thus he was one of those unusual fans that would root for the Longhorns and the Aggies. Lenard was a Naval Aircraft Maintenance Instructor (Aviation Machinist's Mate First Class, USNR) during WWII. He was also a 62 year member of the American Legion. Lenard was employed by Amoco for over thirty years as a petroleum engineer / geologist. He was an avid tennis player and fan who participated in the Louisiana Senior Olympics in tennis during the early 90's. Mr. Cooley is survived by his daughter, Dianne Richardson (Phill) of Moss Bluff, LA; sons, Charles Cooley (Charlotte) of Palmdale, CA and James Cooley (Melissa) of Friendswood, TX; five grandchildren, James Richardson (Ellen) of Westlake, LA, David Richardson of Moss Bluff, LA, Bryan Cooley of San Diego, CA, and Daniel and Hannah Cooley of Friendswood, TX. Lenard was expecting his first great-grandson in September 2015 (by James and Ellen Richardson). He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Charles Cooley; mother, Maude Kilgore Cooley; and his beloved wife and best friend of fifty-one years, Grace Carmella Hermann Cooley. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Legion Post #1. The family would like to express a special word of thanks to his caregiver over the last year, Ms. Fay Cormie.
