The beloved Calvin Peter Bernard, 87, of Westlake, Louisiana departed at 6:40 AM Friday, February 22, 2013 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Calvin was born in Carencro, Louisiana on October 7, 1925 to the parents of Joseph and Rosetta Bernard. Mr. Bernard worked in the Oil Industry and retired as a gage reader for the local refineries. He was a faithful, long time member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mazel Damond Bernard, two daughters, Brenda Bernard and Joislyn (Joi) Bernard, one son, Tony Craig Bernard (Karen) all of Westlake, LA, one brother, Irvin Bernard (Mattie), three sisters, Dorothy Mouton and Nelsie Saulberry all of Lafayette, LA, and Maisie Baker of Los Angeles, CA, seven grandchildren, Javis Guillory, Lance and Chance Bernard, Stacy and Tracy McZeal, Chad and Crystal Gasaway, and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Bernard is preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Joseph Bernard, two sisters, Hazel Comeaux and Nellie Bernard, and his parents, Joseph and Rosetta Bernard.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 12:00 PM at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Westlake, LA under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Deacon Fred Reid will officiate the home-going. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in Westlake. Visitation will begin on Saturday at 10:00 AM with a rosary at 11:00 AM Saturday in the church.
The family would like to graciously thank the entire Memorial Hospital Internal Medicine Department for their understanding, prayers, patients, and love given to our father and our family during the entire length of our fathers illness. To Dr. Michael Lane, Michelle Melton, and the entire rehabilitation department for their undying commitment to get our father to his ultimate physical care and last but defiantly not least to Dr. Jarmon Comeaux and his staff for their undying of the total health concept ofmind, body, and spitit of our father. Dr. Comeaux worked tirelessly to help maximize our father's quality of life with his love, patients, understanding, guidance, and most of all the truth and encouragement he has given our family.
