Carl Lee Ivey, 79, of Lake Charles went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 2, 2011 in a local hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Carl was born August 20, 1931 in Oklahoma City, OK to William Charles and Pearl Ivey. He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1951 and served in the Army. After his time of service, he went to work for several years for Lake Charles Lumber Company. Having an interest in construction, he then went to work for R. D. (Dick) Hyatt Construction Company, Thad Montgomery in Lafayette, LA, and later went into business for himself as Ivey Construction Company, also forming HIB Development Company which was responsible for developing Still Forest West.
His illness forced him to retire in 1994. Before his illness, Carl was active in his church, Sale Street Baptist, serving as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and on numerous committees, along with doing some mission work in Beatty, NV. Carl was active in the Profit and Loss Program serving as a board member, the National Day of Prayer Program and was also a member of the Southwest Louisiana Fishing Club. He always looked forward to the annual July 4th Fishing Rodeo. Carl loved to fish; fresh and saltwater. He made several trips to Alaska fishing salmon and halibut with Mike Halay, Frenchie Guillory, Chuck Johnson (ERA) and Richard Ieyoub. Carl also loved cooking for friends and family.
Carl always put the Lord first in his life in whatever he did and he instilled that in his family. He will be missed, but we know Carl is in his eternal home with his heavenly Father and loved ones, where there is no pain and suffering.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mavis; two sons, Lynn Ivey and Marc Ivey (Missy Smith); two grandchildren, Phillip Ivey and Katie Ivey and soon to be born great granddaughter, Hollis all of lake Charles. He is also survived by one brother, Don Ivey (Cookie) of Edmond, OK; special niece and nephew, Kelly Rodriquez (David) of Dallas, TX and John Charles Ivey (Kathryn) of Colgate, OK; and other nieces, nephews, and cousins from out of town.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Charles Ivey; mother, Pearl; sister, Rachael; and brother, J.C., Howard, and Hugh Daniel Ivey.
Carrying Carl to his resting place will be Phillip Ivey, John Charles Ivey, Johnny Barrios, Merrick Aguillard, Bob Enos, and Calvin Billings. Honorary pallbearers will be Hillary Leviner and Miles Mitchem.
The family wishes to thank Grand Cove for the care they provided for Carl during his stay there and to Odyssey for their extended care and support.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 6, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Randy Edwards and Rev. Ernest Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl's memory to Journey of Faith, in care of Sale Street Baptist Church, 1611 W. Sale Rd., Lake Charles, LA 70605 or to any missions program, also in care of Sale Street Baptist Church.
