Carol Ann Filo peacefully passed away at the age of 83, in her home, surrounded by family. Carol was born on November 13, 1937 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Messmer High School and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and met Jerome Filo, her devoted husband of 62 years.
Carol and Jerry relocated to the Lake Charles area in 1972. In addition to raising a family of six, Carol found time to teach catechism and established the guitar mass at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff. She worked as a bookkeeper for Green Acres Nursing Home for many years and also for CARC, as well as the Southwest Louisiana Health Community Center.
Along with her husband, Carol helped establish the local Calcasieu Habitat for Humanity chapter, where she spent many years volunteering her time. She also served as a volunteer at Abraham’s Tent in more recent years. She was an avid piano and accordion player and loved music. Carol enjoyed traveling to see her family, attending graduations, ballet recitals, sporting events and other activities involving her numerous grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband Jerry; her children, Jim and David (Angela) of Palo Alto, CA, John (Tracy) of Austin, TX, Tom (Kathryn), Kathy and Jean-Marie of Lake Charles. She leaves behind eleven grandchildren, Taylor and Shannon Filo, Tyler, Evan and Andrew Rasbeary, Devon and Elise Filo, Sarah and John Filo, and Amelia and Emmy Lou Filo, as well as three great-grandchildren, Emily, Cate, and Molly Filo.
Her funeral Mass will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Fathers Rommel Tolentino and Levi Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be at the church on Saturday from 11:30 AM until the start of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Abraham’s Tent or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and Home Instead for her care.
