Carol Holman May

June 12, 1933 — December 25, 2023

Carol was born on June 12th, 1933 to Orville Holman and Thelma Marler Holman at her grandmother’s house in Oberlin, La. Her family’s home was Elton, La so that was where she lived in her early years on a rice farm. Her move to Kinder, La at 10 years old was an exciting time for her. She had friends and was a good scholar, in fact, so good she was Salutatorian of the graduating class of 1951, She later entered McNeese State University majoring in Medical Technology where she also met her late husband, A.C May.  After finishing that course, she went on to study Science and taught grade school to 2nd graders for two years in Kinder, La. In February 1956, A.C.’s tour was complete and reunited with Carol, while teaching, and they were married June 4, 1956. They had just celebrated 66 years of marriage before he passed away June 8, 2022.

After college, she worked in the Lab at the first Lake Charles Charity Hospital on Kirkman St for 2 years.

Later, they adopted and became the proud parents of one son and two daughters. She raised the kids and helped in the family business at Pelican Cigar in Lake Charles for 15 years.

She was President of Delta Alpha Delta Sorority for 1 year. She was a member of the Woman’s Alter Society and Lydians Church Society. She became a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven in 1968 and remained a member for over 50 years.

She loved to travel. When A.C. retired in 2011, they traveled the world. They traveled all over Europe, in 10 countries, the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, the Bahamas and visited many states throughout the US. In 2020, they lost their home in major Hurricane Laura and moved to Kingwood, TX for a short time. They moved back to Lake Charles in 2021, where A.C. passed away June 2022, and Carol moved back to Humble, TX in August 2022.Carol passed away peacefully on Christmas night around 10:00 pm.

Carol is survived by her son, Craig Michael May and wife Kimberly of New Caney, TX; daughters, Julie Kristen May Broussard and wife Susan Clark of Longville, LA and Christina Michele May Harvey and husband Jason of Humble, TX. 9 grandchildren, Jacob May, Molly Kirk and husband Ethan, Russell Broussard, Jr and wife Kristel, Reece Broussard and wife Andrea, Jacey Broussard, Janie Carol Broussard, Cade Harvey, Will Harvey and Rhyan Harvey; 7 great grandchildren, Levi and Khloe Kirk, Lyric, Lewis and Logan Broussard and Renesmee and Bentley Ashworth. She is also survived by her sister, Gayle Holman Hawkins and 3 nephews, Steve, Chad and Eric Hawkins.

Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Saturday January 6, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with a Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 PM. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate with interment services to follow at Consolata Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Jacob May, Russell Broussard, Reece Broussard, Cade Harvey, Will Harvey and Ethan Kirk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
