Carolyn Ann Foreman Fontenot

Carolyn Ann Foreman Fontenot, 74, of Lake Charles, died at 12:08 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018, in a local care facility.

Mrs. Fontenot was born on May 21, 1944, in Lake Charles, to Calvin Foreman and Daisy Mae Finley Foreman Milsted. She was a 1962 graduate of St. Charles Academy and a graduate of McNeese State University with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education. Mrs. Fontenot was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. She worked as an educator who taught speech and English at the following schools: Teurlings Catholic High School, Cecilia High School, St. Margaret Catholic School and LaGrange Senior High School. She was an elected public official who served 14 years on the Calcasieu Parish School Board representing District 5. Mrs. Fontenot was the recipient of the Outstanding Young Women of America award for her dedication to the community and public service. She was a Charter Member of the Krewe de la Famille where she and her husband served as King and Queen in 1985. While in college she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and appeared on the cover of The Adelphean magazine as Active of the Year. As an Alpha Delta Pi Alumna she held advisory roles for the Delta Eta Chapter at McNeese where she played an instrumental part in the building of the Ann Rosteet Hurley Lodge, the chapter sorority house. In 1965 she was selected to be in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities, and she won the Meritorious Award at McNeese State for her service and appreciation as an Alpha Delta Pi member. In the community Mrs. Fontenot served actively with the Louisiana Bayou Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Children of the American Revolution, Lake Charles Ballet Society, Lake Charles Symphony, Cub Scouts (Leader), Camp Fire Girls of Southwest Louisiana, Lake Charles Messiah Chorus, and the Gingham Ladies of the Southwest Louisiana Historical Association.

She is survived by her children, Foster Fontenot of Lake Charles, La., and Fara (Fontenot) McKinley and husband COL Keith McKinley of Lake Charles, and Soto Cano Air Base in Honduras; two grandchildren, Gabrielle McKinley and Alexandra McKinley; and two brothers, Danny Foreman (Chris) and Patrick Foreman (Nadine).

Mrs. Fontenot was preceded in death by her husband, Belvin L. Fontenot.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Margaret Catholic Church. The Rev. Samuel Orsot will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Thursday, July 5, at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at 8 a.m. on Friday until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
