Carolyn Ann Garrett

Carolyn Ann Dorsey Garrett, 78, passed away on October 10, 2023 in local hospice care facility. She was born on July 22, 1945, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Jodie and Marjorie Conway Dorsey.

Carolyn was a 1963 graduate of LaGrange High School in Lake Charles. She was the owner of Pickle Barrel Gift Shop in the 1980’s. She retired from the food stamp office after 19 years of faithful service. She enjoyed raising African Violets, painting, decorating and most of all… shopping! She loved watching Dr. Phil and Cops. Her love of animals, regardless of species or beauty, was evident because she “mothered” them all.

Carolyn’s family and friends recognized in her a truly Godly lady. She possessed a spirit which was always friendly, sincere, loyal, and protective. Her faith in God gave her a strength that enabled her to endure. She felt secure knowing Jesus had her in the palm of His hand.

Those left to cherish her memory are, her daughter, Erika Garrett Vincent (Ray); her son, Derek Garrett (Jennifer); her former husband and dear friend, Garland Garrett; her sister, Lois Ford (Larry); her brother, Marvin Dorsey (Jan); her grandchildren, Kass (Mishayla), Kinnon (Jessica) and Kirstyn (William); and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her nephew, Jess Guidry.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 13, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA. Rev. Randy Monroe will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home, beginning on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 5:00 PM, continuing until 8:00 PM, and will resume at 9:00 AM on Friday morning, continuing until the start of the service at 10:00 AM.
