Carolyn Harper

October 12, 1943 — July 30, 2022

What makes a perfect mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend? Is it her kindness? Is it her compassion?  Is it her gentle spirit?  Is it her generosity? Is it her calmness?  Is it her firm guidance? Is it her warm embrace?  Is it her loving heart?  It is often repeated that perfection is not attainable in our human life.  Of that, it is difficult for us to agree.  We take this opportunity to celebrate the person perfect in our eyes.

Carolyn Ann Theresa Jacob Harper was born one of five sisters (Pat, Flo, Gwen, Brenda) born to Joseph Allain Jacob and Floreine Mae Dicharry on October 12, 1943 in New Orleans, LA.  She attended USL in Lafayette, Louisiana where she found a love for nursing and a love for her husband, Lonnie Glenn Harper.

Carolyn and Lonnie made their home in Grand Chenier, Louisiana.  After losing one child (Mark Edward) at birth, they welcomed three children into the world:  Daniel Ned, Leonard Paul, and Jennifer Eugenia.

Carolyn was an active member of St. Eugene Catholic Church in Grand Chenier, LA.  She loved her church and was a devoted parishioner.  She was a Trustee, a Finance Council member, a Lector, an Adult Religion Class Teacher, an Alligator Festival contributor and worker, the Come Lord Jesus Bible Study Leader, and Member of the Saint Eugene choir.

In addition to her service to the church, she and Lonnie continue to support the community through their local business and contributions to various local organizations.

Carolyn's focus in life was service to others, particularly her family.  She always placed her husband, children (Danny, Leonard, Jennifer, Michelle, Shannon, and Scott), and grandchildren (Madison, Logan, Wyatt, Hudson, Carlie, and Cole) above all others, including herself.

Carolyn passed peacefully on July 30, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family in Lake Charles.  Please help us celebrate our perfect mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend.  Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM at the funeral home.
