Carolyn L. Rentrop, 83, of Lake Charles, died Sunday May 5, 2013 in her residence.
She was born in Shreveport, LA and attended Fairfield elementary and Byrd High School. Carolyn earned a BS Degree in Business Administration at Louisiana Tech University where she met Rodney, the love of her life. Some days on campus were spent typing lab reports for Rodney that started a lifetime of sharing and commitment for all necessary tasks before them. Carolyn had a great love for Louisiana Tech since her distant kin, Representative George Madden Lomax, was the founding father of the university. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. After graduation in 1950 she worked for Skelly Oil Co. in Shreveport, until her marriage in November, 1950 to Rodney. She did secretarial work in Lake Charles until her first child was born. Carolyn was a devoted home maker for her family and was involved with her sons scouting and sports activities. Carolyn reinforced her son's elementary education after school each day and thereby established a firm foundation of learning procedures. She also did substitute teaching in Lake Charles schools. Carolyn assisted with the business portion of her son's dental practice for many years. She was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church and assisted her husband with greeting and usher duties. Carolyn and Rodney enjoyed sailing and Lake Charles Yacht Club activities. They enjoyed Square and Round Dancing and traveled to many festivals in the U.S. and weekly to Jennings, LA. They were also very active in the ballroom Tempo Dance Club. Carolyn's love for her cats was also well known. Carolyn and Rodney had great love for their grandchildren and welcomed opportunities to take them on trips to the Canadian Rockies, Maui, Hawaii and New Brunsfield, TX.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Rodney Rentrop Sr.; sons, Dr. Rodney Rentrop Jr. and wife Karen of Sulphur and David Rentrop and wife Emily of Lake Charles; two grand children, Scott and Sarah Rentrop; great grandchild, Kori.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Edith Love; and sister, Barbara Bridges, of Shreveport.
