Carolyn Sue Smith Gulley, 70, of Lake Charles died Friday, October 8, 2010 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Gulley was born, raised and educated in Delhi, LA. She was a graduate of Judson College in Marion, AL where she met and later married her college sweetheart and husband of twenty- seven years, William "Buz" Gulley, Jr... She has lived the past forty years in Lake Charles.
Outside of her family, Mrs. Gulley had two great loves, the Lord and teaching. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, WMU Director and Youth and Activities Secretary. Mrs. Gulley was fortunate in that she was able to take time off as a teacher to be a devoted wife and mother. She took twenty years off from teaching and returned in 1991. During this time she was a teacher for LaGrange High School, Calcasieu PM School and thirteen years at Bell City High School, where she was 2000/2001 Teacher of the Year. She was always very active in community and school functions.
Mrs. Gulley will be most remembered as a "prayer warrior with a servant's heart".
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Jodi Lyn Gulley of Spring, TX and Melanie Anne Ceynar and husband Jeffery of Houston, TX; one grandchild, William Jeffery Ceynar of Houston, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Monday, October 11, 2010 in Trinity Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Greg Bath will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Sunday will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the funeral home. Visitation Monday will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service in the church.
