Carroll John Mire

March 7, 1937 — November 10, 2022

Carroll John Mire, age 85, passed away on Thursday November 10, 2022. Born March 7, 1937, in Norco, Louisiana, he was the first born to his parents John Daniel “Dan” and Lorita Marie “Boone” Mire. Carroll was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Carroll grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1956. At LaGrange, Carroll was a member of the cheerleading squad as well as the boxing team.

He married Grace Marie Sarver in 1959 and lived most of his life in Sulphur, Louisiana. He and Grace were married for over 60 years, and they raised 3 boys together, Michael, Brian, and Chris. Carroll began working at Conoco in Lake Charles in 1962, first as a welder and later as a heavy equipment operator and retired after 35 years in 1997. Carroll was also a member of the local union during his time at Conoco. After retirement, Carroll enjoyed working part-time at the golf courses in Sulphur and Westlake, never missing the opportunity to strike up a conversation with new and old friends on the course.

Carroll’s true joy in life was being active in the Louisiana outdoors, from the marshes of Cameron Parish to his deer lease in Longville and Toledo Bend Lake where he and Grace had a camp for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed duck and deer hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Carroll was also an avid LSU fan and loved to watch the Tigers play. He will always be remembered for his love of cooking for family and friends and was known for his BBQ and other Cajun dishes, especially jambalaya. Those who knew Carroll know he left an impression anywhere he went. He was charming, loving, and funny – he always got a kick out of making those around him laugh.

Carroll was a life-long Catholic and regularly attended services at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Maplewood and St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Boone Mire, sister Danya Taveney, and his wife of 60 years Grace Marie Mire.

Left to cherish Carroll’s memory include his children Michael Mire and wife Susan, Brian Mire and wife Joni, and Christopher Mire, all of Sulphur; two grandchildren Coby Mire of New York, NY and Kasen Babineaux of Gillis, and two great-grandchildren, Kate and Korie Babineaux. Carroll is also survived by his brothers Keith Mire and wife Rebecca of Blanco, Texas, Ronnie Mire of Lake Charles, and Dickie Mire and wife Debbey of Shreveport.

Funeral services for Carroll will be held at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur on Saturday, November 19th at 1:00pm. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the funeral home from 11:00am until the time of service. The Reverend Timothy Goodly of Immaculate Conception will officiate. Following the service, Carroll’s ashes will be buried next to Grace in Antioch Cemetery in Edgerly. Honorary Pallbearers will be Coby Mire, Matthew Mire, Mark Taveney, Vance Cormier, and John Babineaux.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice, Home Instead, and High Hope Care Center for lovingly caring for Carroll over the past year.
