Carrol (Bahnsen) McConnaughhay , 89, of Sulphur, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016. A native of Vinton, she was the 7th of eight children. She lived in Beaumont, TX and attended Lamar College; an avid dancer, she was associated with Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She later lived in Lake Charles and worked for W.R. Grace before moving to Sulphur in 1964. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church. She also was involved with fundraising events, a Girl Scout leader for several age groups and den mother for Cub Scouts at Our Lady’s School. She was an advocate for St. Jude’s League, a prayer program for the handicapped, disabled and those with special needs.
Carrol leaves to honor her memory her children, Pat McConnaughhay and wife Trudy, Ann McConnaughhay Guidry and husband Charlie, grandchildren, John Paul and Derek Guidry and Anna Beth and William McConnaughhay and one great –granddaughter Layla Guidry. Also one sister, Maggie Husers of Lake Charles, one brother-in- law, Dick Wilson of Vinton. She loved and enjoyed a close friendship with her many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McConnaughhay, parents Cornelius and Catherine Moss Bahnsen, brothers Elwin, Ernest, Elton and Moss Bahnsen and their spouses, sisters Wilda Hale and her spouse and Dorothy Wilson. Also, her cousin/sister, Oneta Sandifer and her spouse.
During her life she truly treasured her family and spending time together and the good times with many friends. Her spontaneous humor was infectious and always brought a smile to everyone. She had a unique ability to tell a joke. She also enjoyed traveling, camping and gardening. She especially adored the value her Catholic faith. She believed that the power of God’s love is immeasurable and that we all are blessed with something to share with others.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, August 8th; in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur with Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau, V.F. officiating Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Sulphur under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, August 7th, 3-8 p.m. with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and will resume on Monday from 12 p.m. until time of leaving for the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to Our Lady’s School in her name.Visits: 2
