Cecil Dan Morgan, 87, of Lake Charles passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025 in a local healthcare facility.
Mr. Morgan was born on November 2nd, 1937 to Ernest Dale Morgan and Cecil Slocum Morgan. A lifelong resident of Lake Charles, he was a 1957 graduate of Lake Charles High School. He served in the United States Army as Military Police during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Morgan owned Atlas Incinerators where he designed, built and installed the first incinerator for cremation for the City of Lake Charles Animal Shelter as well as many others. He was well known as a deputy for Calcasieu Parish where he primarily ran the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Farm from which he retired. Mr. Morgan was an avid hunter and fisherman and one of the first pioneer fishermen to fish Toledo Bend when it opened. He loved spending time at his camp in Toledo Bend. He fished countless tournaments at Toledo and hunted throughout Central America, Alaska, Argentina, Canada and Mexico into 2023. A man of faith, Mr. Morgan was a member of First United Methodist Church and University United Methodist Church.
He leaves to honor his memory, his son, Jeffrey Alan Morgan (Roxanne); daughter, Carol Ann Richards (Tim); five grandchildren, Justin Trey Augustine (Alyse), Jordan Paige Meche (Zach), Kayleigh Brooke Richards, Caden Luke Richards and Hannah Elizabeth Morgan; two great grandchildren, Addie Claire Augustine and Quinn Marie Augustine and one sister, Gail Smithwick (Ron) of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, William, Charles, Ernest Jr., and Ray Morgan.
A Memorial Service honoring his life, well lived, will be at 12:00 PM Thursday, April 24, 2025 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Rev. Angela Cooley Bulhof will officiate. A gathering of his family and friends Wednesday will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and will resume Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
