Our loved one departed in her home peacefully after 101 years of life on Monday, April 22, following a brief illness.
Cormier was born Feb. 26, 1912 in Cloutierville, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents Frank Wardlow and Mary Brevelle, sister Ida Felix, husband Curley Cormier and grandson Stafford Fontenot. Cormier lived in Lake Charles since 1929 and along with raising four children, she served her God faithfully and lived a spiritual life based in evangelization. She practiced her faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, serving as a missionary in the United States, more than 60 years. She was highly regarded for her skills in the kitchen and as a gardener. Known as Nippy to her neighbors, Cormier was also regarded as a guardian of animals.
Cormier is survived by her four children: Marie Payne and her husband Ike Payne of Albuquerque, New Mexico; James William Cormier and his wife Marion Cormier of Lake Charles; Theresa Cormier of Houston; and Elizabeth Liz Cormier of Lake Charles. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jaime Hubbard and his wife Beverly Hubbard of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Darren Sterling of Atlanta, Georgia; Michael Cormier and his wife Pamela Cormier of Fort Worth, Texas; Eric Nicholas Cormier of Lake Charles; Jason Paul Cormier and his wife Michelle Cormier of Lake Charles and Jeanine Cormier of Lake Charles and three great-grandchildren: Justin and Mathew Cormier of Lake Charles and Jay Curley Cormier also of Lake Charles.
A memorial service will be held for Cormier at Johnson Funeral Home Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m. Visitation will begin at noon. The service will be officiated by Brother Robert Young and Brother Ronald Young.
The Cormier family wants to thank Dr. Percival Kane, Dr. Garrett Ryder and Amedisys Hospice and all the friends who attended to their mother and grandmother until she passed away.
