Celia "Lavona" Huesers Taylor

September 11, 1948 — August 16, 2023

Celia "LaVona" Huesers Taylor, 74, of Lake Charles passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 16th 2023, from the comfort of her home surrounded by family and friends.

LaVona was born in Crowley, Louisiana on September 11, 1948. She graduated from Marion High School in 1966, then later went to work at Bell South for 32 years as a telephone operator. On March 31,1967 LaVona met and married her husband, Charles Taylor, and shared fifty-six loving years together. On May 29, 1970 LaVona welcomed her one and only child, her son, Charles Taylor Jr.

The simplest things in life satisfied LaVona… gatherings with family, cooking and indulging in superb food (mainly at Southern Spice), all things game shows, getting her hair done at the beauty school, and moments with friends. She took pride in being “Maw Maw” to her grandchildren, and “Nanny” to any and all that she took under her wing.

LaVona will be remembered most for her selflessness, her love, and her crawfish etouffee.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Charles Taylor; one son, Charles Taylor Jr. and wife Kelly; three grandchildren and their spouses, Zach and Jordan, Gabby and Eleazar, and Gavin; two great-grandchildren, Nova and Ezra; one brother, Stephen Huesers and wife Sheryl of Lake Charles; one sister, Molly Benoit of Lake Charles; many other extended family members; and her two feline friends, Lil’ Man and Kobe.

LaVona was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Sylvia Doucet Huesers, and her sister, Elizabeth Huesers Tate.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Donald Higgins, Carlyss, Nita, Darlene, Kerry, and all of our friends for their love and support during this difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 PM on Monday, August 21, 2023 in The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located at 935 Bilbo St., Lake Charles, LA. Father Joseph Caraway will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Sunday evening at the funeral home, and will continue until 8:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Monday morning at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until leaving in procession to the church at 1:00 PM.
