Cephas Andrew Sonnier, 65, of Lake Charles died at 4:00 AM Sunday, April 28, 2013 in his residence.
Mr. Sonnier was born on July 8, 1947 in Kinder, Louisiana and was raised most of his life in Topsy, LA. He was a graduate of Sam Houston High School and attended McNeese State University before being drafted into the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Sonnier was a Sergeant and received two Purple Hearts after serving in the Vietnam War. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Sonnier worked as a Longshoreman for Lake Charles Stevadores for many years. He was a member of the International Association of Longshoreman. Mr. Sonnier was a Golden Glove Boxer and a Martial Arts Instructor. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his spare time.
He is survived by two daughters; Serenity Richard and husband Scott of Jennings, LA, and Charity Wilsford and husband Jim of Odenville, AL, three brothers; Winbourn Sonnier of LeBleu Settlement, LA, Louis Sonnier of Topsy, LA, Gary Sonnier and wife Melissa of Lake Charles, LA, two sisters; Patty Sonnier of Topsy, LA, and Pam Cormier and husband Rodney of Topsy, LA, one grandson, Jarren Richard of Jennings, LA.
Mr. Sonnier is preceded in death by one daughter, Purity Sonnier, and his parents; Joe Cephas and Dorothy Reeves Sonnier.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Mitchell Istre will officiate. Burial will be in Green Oaks Cemetery in Kinder, Louisiana. Visitation will begin on Tuesday at 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday at 8:00 AM until the time of services.
