Charles Chuck Istre

Charles Joseph Istre, 87, of Lake Charles died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, in Jennings, LA.

Charles was born in Crowley, LA on September 25, 1924. He attended Crowley High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. He served his country in the Pacific during World War II. On December 26, 1945, he married Irene Richard and started his career as an automative parts

salesman. He worked for Goodyear Tire Rubber Company and Sears. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Lafayette and met many new neighbors and friends. They became avid campers. After seven years, he moved back to the Lake Charles area.

He is preceded by his parents Marius Ernestine Istre, his wife Irene Richard Istre, his daughter in law Becky Primeaux Istre, his son in law David Keith Sarsfield and his seven siblings.


He is survived by his son Richard Istre and wife Barbara of Baton Rouge, his son Kenneth Istre of Lake Charles, and his daughter Ann Sarsfield Martin and her husband Al of Lafayette. His grandchildren: Kristen Istre Orndoff and husband James of Lake Charles, Kourtney Istre of Lake Charles, Kara Istre of New Orleans, and Kevin Istre and wife Melissa of Baton Rouge. Great Grandchildren: Karter James Orndoff and Mary Caroline Istre.


His greatest loves besides family were Fox 51, breakfast at Southern Spice, and LSU Football and Baseball. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Alan Trouille will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the services.
