Charles H. Mcneely, Jr.

Charles H. McNeely Jr., 91, died Monday, May 11, 2015 in a local hospital. Mr. McNeely was born in Baton Rouge, La. and has lived most of his life in the Lake Charles area. He served the United States Army Air Corp as a Radio Operator during WWII. He worked 37 years as an Inspector for Southern Pacific Railroad, having retired a Claims Clerk. Following his retirement, Mr. McNeely was a commissioned volunteer for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. He enjoyed his membership with the Kiwanis Club of South Lake Charles of which he received a Perfect Attendance Award, the Kiwanian of the Year Award and a Life Time Achievement Award. He also volunteered on the Allocations Committee for United Way, was Scout Master and Den Chief for the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. McNeely was an avid outdoors man, enjoyed hunting, and served as a referee for the NRA. For fun, he looked forward to family vacations. He was a founding member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish and supporter of Monsignor DeBlanc's vision of building the Our Lady Queen of Heaven Community. He is preceded in death by, wife Patricia Daigle McNeely, parents Charles McNeely, Sr. and Laurence Crouchet McNeely, brother, Lawrence James McNeely, son, Patrick Angus McNeely, great grandson, Jordan Kent Knepper. He leaves to honor his memory: Sons, Charles III, wife Tracy, Jack Edward, daughter, Edith Thomas, husband James. Sister, Rosa Mae Guidry. Grandchildren, Kim Knepper, husband Jared, Lauren Sonnier, fiancé Craig Martin, Alexandra and Paige McNeely. Great grandchild Nathan Knepper. Funeral Mass will be at 1:30pm Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Interment will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday will be from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm with a rosary beginning at 6:00 pm. Visitation Thursday will be from 8:00 am until 1:15pm in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to charity of one's choice.
